Mrs. Christine Norton

Welcome to the Lab!
We spent our first weeks of the year getting acquainted with our new equipment in the lab. Most students think a computer is a computer is a computer. But we quickly learned the differences between Chrome and Apple equipment. Together, we've learned a lot!

To start the 2019-20 year, Grades 1 & 2 met the Digital Citizens, characters from Common Sense Media who help us recognize how technology can affect our feelings and teach us to be responsible while online. Grades 3, 4,& 5 completed 3 lessons in digital citizenship discussing the use of strong passwords, balancing their use of media, and proper behavior and safety when on the internet. Grades 6 - 8 became familiar with Google Docs which though it resembles and often works like Microsoft Word, is definitely a different animal. Grades 3-8 have also completed lessons in BrainPop and Newsela to increase their use of non-fiction reading and media.

Students in grades 3 - 8 must take the Aspire Interims. These tests are taken online in the lab and are to show learning progression and prepare students for the Aspire Test in the spring. We completed the first set in October and are now in the 2nd phase which will be finished up upon our return in January.

Grades for Computers are based on class assignments and the quizzes for Digital Citizenship. This does not include Core Curriculum assignments from classroom teachers.

I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. May God bless you!
